CRICKET MALHERBIE
We are a combination of two rural hamlets with some 61 properties with 120 adults and 12 children. There are no shops, public houses, schools or public transport. The community is a mixture of working and retired residents with the main local activity being agriculture. There are currently two holiday complexes adjacent to Manor Farm with a third soon to be constructed. The church is the only public building and is used twice a year for Parish meetings. Church matters are discussed and the parish donates finance to help with church insurance expenses. We have a bi-ennial Flower Festival over the three days of the second May Bank holiday with Cream Teas and stalls, there is an annual Barbeque and Quiz in July and a Harvest Lunch in September. Each event receives excellent community support helping the PCC to honour all financial commitments. With limited facilities all activities take careful planning and hard work.
The church is available for baptisms, weddings and funerals and is open daily for private prayer and meditation.
St Mary Magdalene Church is in the centre of the hamlet of Cricket Malherbie and is the focal point for the community and the sole place of worship. A Grade 2* listed building, the church built in 1852 sits on the site of a former church of which the crypt remains. Sixty worshippers can be accommodated easily but we do squeeze in more when necessary using moveable chairs. The fabric of the Building is well maintained both within and outside; the churchyard grounds and wild meadow are very well kept. The St Mary Magdalene west window has recently been refurbished and is now weather tight and gleams in the setting sun.
Welcome to St Mary Magdalene Church, Cricket Malherbie!
We are the Church of England Parish Church for Cricket Malherbie and Knowle St Giles.
St Mary Magdalene’s is a Festival Church, which means that whilst the church is not used for regular worship, we hold a number of special services in the church each year. For example we will worship here for Christmas, Easter, Harvest, Mothering Sunday and other times as advertised.
For matters relating to the church building and grounds please contact the churchwarden(s) of the parish, details below.
